Design with purpose

Our Mission

Uprella means growing together, under one umbrella that lifts everyone up. This creates a double responsibility: one towards our clients, the other towards a global community that many of our team members belong to.

Our responsibility to our clients begins with an offer that meets real needs. Instead of piecing together isolated services, we approach each project as a whole and with a long term perspective. We make sure that concept, design and visual language work in sync. Every project is led by experienced designers who hold a master’s degree from the German higher education system. That is how we deliver quality that is reliable, clear and built to last.

Our responsibility to the global community takes shape in a system built on growth and inclusion. We support people who have been trapped in exploitative working conditions and help them build a self-determined professional path. Through our paid design education, we create an environment that is collaborative, respectful and empowering. It provides structure, builds on individual strengths and opens up long term opportunities. The program is guided by experienced professionals, including professors from German universities. This gives participants a solid foundation for financial independence and greater control over their own lives.

Design is more than aesthetics

Design is a mindset made visible

At Uprella, we design with responsibility

For brands and for people

How It Works

We believe that social projects have the greatest impact when they are built to last. And that they are most sustainable when everyone involved benefits, rather than depending on personal sacrifice or goodwill.
That is why we developed a principle that connects design with social change. It is designed to benefit everyone involved: our clients, our team and disadvantaged people who have long been overlooked.

1. Purpose attracts clients

The combination of high design quality and Uprella's unique social and inclusive approach convinces companies to work with us.

2. Projects support the Academy

Working with Uprella also means supporting the Academy. A share of the resources from client projects helps fund our in-house design education.

3. Empowerment through education

People coming from exploitative living and working conditions gain new perspectives. We offer paid education along with access to equipment, infrastructure, and professional guidance.

4. Bringing talents into the team

We invite talents who prove themselves during training to join the Uprella team. They work as equals, under fair conditions, with real opportunities for growth.

5. Raising our level

Our own design education creates a strong pool of highly skilled and trusted talent. This allows us to build a highly capable team. The variety of perspectives adds even more strength.

6. Value for everyone

A strong team creates top-level work and keeps our clients satisfied. Their projects create new chances for people who have long lacked real opportunities. And the cycle starts again.

Uprella Campus

The uprella campus was created out of a clear need to provide access to education, career paths and creative participation for people who are systematically excluded by social, economic or geographic conditions. Many of them have great potential but few real chances to receive a solid education or earn an independent income. Our training program responds to this structural inequality not with short term aid or symbolic inclusion, but with lasting change through education, perspectives and self-empowerment.

For all who want to truly understand what the campus is about, here comes the in depth explanation: DIVE IN

At the heart of the program is a clearly structured curriculum based on real world design requirements. At the same time, it remains flexible enough to adapt to different backgrounds, interests and personal contexts. Rather than covering everything broadly, the program builds a strong foundation in design and enables focused specializations in areas relevant to professional practice. The content links theory with hands-on experience, encourages independent thinking and leads directly to paid work. The curriculum is continuously developed with input from seasoned professionals as well as lecturers and students from German universities. It stays open to feedback and evolving needs, with participants actively shaping the process.

The training takes place entirely online. It is modular and combines a range of formats, including video lessons, one-on-one conversations, support materials, practical tasks, discussions, group projects and individual mentoring. The campus is not just a course catalog but a living platform where learning, exchange and growth happen continuously. The environment supports both collaboration and focused, independent work.

Learning English is also a key part of the training. Not as an end in itself, but as a tool for self-reliance. It helps participants find resources on their own, access global job markets, work independently and feel confident in international settings.

One of the program’s core elements is financial support during training. Participants receive an income that allows them to fully focus on learning. This income is not symbolic. It is based on real needs and provided regardless of background, gender or age. Selection is anonymous and based on motivation, reliability and willingness to learn. Admission decisions are made through practical tasks, not based on resumes or formal degrees.

Some graduates are invited to join the uprella design team and work under fair conditions on a wide range of design projects. These projects often come from economically stronger regions and are carried out by people living in areas with lower income levels. The model deliberately uses cost of living differences to pay fair wages while generating a surplus. That surplus flows back into the program to fund new paid training spots, provide equipment, secure internet access and offer suitable learning materials and other necessary resources. This creates a sustainable cycle that grows with each new generation.

The uprella campus is built on values. It brings to light the political, economic and cultural realities that shape access to education today. These include exclusion based on language, racism, classism, ableism, bureaucratic barriers and global power structures. The people shaping the campus name these realities but do not get stuck in them. Instead, they create concrete alternatives. They focus on collaboration, clarity and constant development.

The program is designed to function independently. It is not tied to individuals or institutions. It runs on transparent processes, clear communication, stable digital tools and repeatable routines. Everything is built in a way that allows others to take over, continue or adapt the program without having to start from scratch.

The uprella campus is not a solution to every problem. But it is a tool that helps people stay capable of action in difficult conditions. It creates spaces for learning, working, reflection and dialogue. And it grows with the people who use it.

With uprella — and with the campus in particular — we do not aim to improve the lives of every person in the world. Instead, we focus on creating real change in specific lives and opening up opportunities where none existed before. For many, this has already worked. Our task now is to make this path available to more and more people.
